Last but by no means least, Sarah Michelle Gellar who I've loved for the last 15 years or so, ever since Buffy. Picspam )

I was supposed to do two last time and then didn't so there will definitely be two posts now.

First up, Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond in Doctor Who. Picspam )

This week it has mostly been snowing. I've walked in the snow, I've fallen down in the snow, I've watched amy bunnies play in the snow. Mostly, I'm over the snow and it needs to go away and be spring already.

I am loving my new laptop and its ability to hold a charge, so I don't constantly have to have it plugged in. I'm going to spend the weekend investigating what it can do and making sure I have all my applications so I can write and make icons (Community and Suits on both counts, for anyone who cares about that kind of thing.

My mum is coming to visit on Sunday, weather permitting to make up for not getting here last week. I was going to go and see The Muppets, but the weather is off-putting so I'm going next week with some friends after work instead.

The landlady also agreed that Shawn could move in, so that'll be happening on March 17th. Big new phase, but I think it'll work out and it'll certainly help with my plans for the future. Yes, I have plans. Who'd have thought it. First on the list is - pay off debt, so the extra money every month will help with that.

So with the weekend stretching out in front of me and Valentine's Day on the horizon, would anyone like a fic? Give me a prompt and a pairing and I'll see what I can do.

Last night I set my laptop down and went to put the kettle on. When I got back 20 seconds later and picked up my laptop, the screen part fell off. It's completely broken in two. Tomorrow I'm taking it to hopefully get fixed, but it's going to cost at least £50 (the 'diagnosis' fee). This means I'll be without internet probably over the weekend. How will I survive? What did people do before the internet? Read books?

Right now I have the laptop hooked up to the TV, which is actually pretty awesome. Everything's huge. I may play The Sims just to see what it looks like. I kind of want to make graphics too.

My mum is coming tomorrow so at least that's something to look forward to. I want her to watch the new Sherlock, but I also want to show her Suits. We'll only have time for one. Oh, decisions, decisions.

I did actually watch the Suits pilot again this week, to introduce my new housemate - Shawn - to it. He's taking the spare room in March which will give us all some spare cash, now [livejournal.com profile] hils is staying in the UK. I have been educating Shawn in good TV for months now. We've done Community (which he loves), Arrested Development, Spaced and Pushing Daisies. He's enjoyed everything, so at least he has good taste. He loved the Suits pilot (Harvey and Mike have an excellent dynamic, don't you know? I tried to rein in my exclamations of "omgyestheyresoinlove!" Whether I will be able to contain it indefinitely remains to be seen) and is watching the rest when they air.

And finally, because it makes me happy and will never not be awesome )

This week we're celebrating two fantastic women. First is Gillian Jacobs, who plays Britta in Community.

I know I was supposed to write my reviews of Sherlock this weekend, but I as I fell head over heels in love with Suits, I decided to finish watching the first season of that instead.

In fact I love it so much I'm watching it for the third time, right now. General incoherent squee below. )

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

We can't usually afford to do much in a given month regardless but I'll gladly save any money we would have spent to help this cause. Megaupload was just the beginning. If we don't make our voices heard now the internet will soon change and it won't be for the better.

I still have to do reviews of episodes 2 & 3 of Sherlock, which will hopefully happen over the weekend. I was sick on Monday so I watched The Reichenbach Fall again and I don't think it's spoiling my review to say it's the best thing that's going to be on TV all year - possibly even until the next season of Sherlock, whenever that happens to come along.

In the mean time, I have started watching Suits, which is filling the void left by Community's benching and Psych's hiatus. Spoilers )

This week we're celebrating: Maggie Lawson. Star of Psych and the woman playing my favourite female character on TV right now, Juliet O'Hara.

I’ve seen the odd comment here and there, following A Scandal in Belgravia, about Steven Moffat and his treatment of woman and how you're a bad person and a worse woman if you like it. Those comments have made me back quickly away before I exploded with rage, but they got me thinking and today, finally, it spilled out into this.

No spoilers. My own opinions. You may disagree. That's sort of the point. )

Apparently I'm in quite a ranty mood today. I wrote an epic livejournal post at lunchtime about TV and women and most of you would probably hate it. I doubt I'm going to post it because as tired as I am of all the bullshit, I'm more tired of complaining about things all the time. So maybe I'll just write them occasionally and keep them on my computer to look back on when I'm feeling particularly pissed off.

What I was meant to be writing at the time was a review of the second Sherlock episode, which I adored. Since I've lost my train of thought regarding it now, maybe I'll watch it again, then try to write something coherent.

ETA: Or I'll just rewrite it until I'm happy and post it anyway.

It has been an odd week so far. 2012 certainly seems like it's going to be an eventful year.

The big news is that after 7 & a half years of living together, [livejournal.com profile] hils and I will (most likely) shortly be on opposite sides of the Atlantic, as she's been offered a job in Atlanta. Obviously this is a fantastic opportunity and I'm very happy for her, even though it means the end of era together. I've known [livejournal.com profile] hils for ten years and I can't even begin to say what it's meant to me having her as a friend.

Of course this also means big changes ahead for me too. I have a few options now to weigh up and as scary as it is, it's also exciting in a way because who knows what the next few months will bring.

The first week of the year is over already. Hope it was a good one for you. Mine hasn't been that great. I haven't been sleeping and work has been pretty bad. Friday was bad enough to make me cry with frustration. None of the management team wants to take responsibility for anything and we end up having to have meetings about things which could be sorted out by telling certain other people to just do their job. Anyway, I'm kind of dreading going to back tomorrow. At least Sherlock is on tonight.

I've been thinking this week about last year and the year ahead. Last year was a pretty amazing one for me. For a lot of people it seemed to be quite depressing, but I achieved a lot and I did a lot I'd never done before.

- I lost an extra 13lbs since the start of 2011 and have kept all the weight off.
- I ran 10K in June doing the Race for Life in June.
- I completed and posted a 25,000 word Psych fic, which I'd been writing for 2 years.
- I met Russell Howard in York after one of his shows
- I went to Comic Con for to the first time in July and had one of the best times of my life. I met Dominic Monaghan and hi-fived Dule Hill. Doesn't get much better than that.

I don't really like the idea of New Year resolutions. I mean if you want to change something, change it. But it's nice to have goals and something to work towards, so I've put together some for the year ahead.

- Stay at a healthy weight and preferably under 10.7 stones.

- Read 12 books. Yeah that doesn't sound like many, but somewhere along the way I've stopped reading actual books as much as I used to. So one a month is a nice goal to get me started again.

- Learn to play the violin. I used to play when I was younger but I gave it up. I've always loved it though and my mum bought me a new one, so I'd love to learn again.

- Write 100,000 words.

- Learn to drive. This has been on my list for years and it may not happen this year either, being so expensive and all, but I'd really like to try.

Something to get me posting this year. Every week I plan to do a rundown of a bunch of my Top 5's with a picspam.

This week celebrates my number 1 girl crush: Alison Brie. If you don't know who she is, watch Community and find out!

As it's Sherlock Holmes' birthday today I thought I'd post my review for the movie, as [livejournal.com profile] hils and I went to see it on Wednesday.

Sherlock is back on TV and the most disappointing thing about it is knowing that in 3 weeks it'll all be over and then the rest of the year stretches out like an endless void of badly written dross. Well on TV over here at least.

Like most people I was worried that the second season wouldn't be able to match the first, but this episode proves that I shouldn't doubt Steven Moffat. I loved it.

Happy 2012 everyone. I hope it's a good one for everyone.

I'm making some resolutions to try and make myself happier this year. Not that I was unhappy last year, but I think it's time I took some control of the things that make me stressed and worried and depressed. One of my resolutions is to get back to posting on here more and interacting again, which I've been terrible at lately. I also want to write more. I have so many ideas and I miss actually telling the stories.

So to start the year off the way I mean to go on, let me introduce myself (again).

Hi, I'm Jacqui. I'm 32 years old and I'm from the UK. I work as a Records Assistant and I really love my job and the place I work. I have two adorable rabbits named Shawn and Gus. I am passionate about tv, films, books, writing and politics, to name just a few. Right now my heart belongs to Community (#sixseasonsandamovie) and Psych, and I'm sure when Sherlock starts tonight that will steal what's left.
