Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday last week. I did have a lovely day and then a nice week off. Since I haven't done a proper update in the longest time, this might get huge.

On the 21st I had great day out by myself. I had my eyes tested for the first time in a while and bought some brand new glasses (two pairs in fact) which I haven't had in five years. Then I went to the hairdresser and I talked to him about the Harry Potter films and Star Wars, because I have the coolest hairdresser in the world. Then I went to see Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which is just one of the best and most beautiful films I'm ever seen. Gary Oldman was incredible, as was Benedict Cumberbatch. In fact the entire cast was perfect and for a film where not a lot happens, I could honestly watch it over and over. On my way out I was walking behind a group of boys, just about 18 years old, and I really thought it wouldn't be their kind of film, but one of them said it was the best film he'd seen, which I thought was quite impressive.

I was back at work this week, with our new manager who I think is going to be a nightmare, but I only have to get through to April when my real boss comes back from maternity leave. I can't wait. At least the new tv season has started to give me some fun things to focus on.

It has been a rather eventful couple of weeks.

Last Friday I went with some of my friends to see Russell Howard in York. It was a tiny venue and he was amazing as always. There were time I was crying with laughter, which is always a good sign. I wasn't impressed with having to pay £6.40 for a glass of wine (!!) but afterwards, this happened, which more than made up for it. )

On Friday we had a Superhero day at work to raise money for charity. A few of us dressed up and had a fun day mostly messing around. I went as Wonder Woman and was rather pleased with how my outfit turned out. I came second in the costume competition )

Why is no one talking about last night's Doctor Who? Spoilers )

Finally, I'm doing the Race for Life 10K in York on June 19th. If anyone would like to sponsor me, my sponsorship page is here.

Now, I have a nice evening of Coupling, Doctor Who, Press Gang and wine ahead of me. I love Bank Holidays!

I can't believe its been a month since I posted. Well actually I can, considering. The weather has been strangely gorgeous for the last few weeks and I've enjoyed being out in it. Sunshine and heat are strange phenomena to the British, so it's best to take advantage while you have the opportunity. You never know when it's going to decide to rain for 40 days straight.

I have lost 2 and a half stones now (35lbs), so I am super excited and looking forward to buying myself a whole load of new clothes very soon.

I am now off work for 11 days. \o/ I have lots planned actually, starting with heading back to my parents tomorrow. Monday will be spent painting my sister's house. Wednesday I'll be visiting [livejournal.com profile] flakmagnet then taking the rabbits to the vet for their one year check up. Friday is the Royal Wedding and maybe I'm the only person in the country who cares, but I'm rather looking forward to it.

Naturally I was very sorry about Elisabeth Sladen who I grew up watching in Doctor Who and who made past seasons of this new series all the more enjoyable. I'm sure she'd be as excited as I am about new Doctor Who on Saturday though. I will no doubt have something to post about after that.

Good > Bad

My posts recently have been quite miserable so this one is going to be happy. I'm determined.

But hey, lets start with the stuff that's a little bit sucky, just for perspective:

- my back still hurts, not as much but the pain is still there. I complained to the spa and as yet I've had no response

- the English football team had another dismal performance on Friday and it irritates me that footballers are paid so much money and yet don't seem to be able to do the one thing they're paid to do. The sense of entitlement in British sport is frankly irritating; inventing something does not mean you are naturally good at it. Effort is, in fact, required.

- this week's emergency budget seems to be about to cutback on public sector pensions. Because giving a public sector worker a pension is wrong? How much is Cameron getting when he retires? Oh no, wait. He's rich anyway.

Okay, back to the good news \o/:

- I managed to finally clear out the Inbox at work. I have my review tomorrow and I think it's going to be okay.

- Doctor Who was freaking amazing again. Have I mentioned how much I love Steven Moffat? And Matt Smith? This whole season has been so good. I can't wait for next week.

- I spent yesterday afternoon/evening with some friends from work, at a barbecue. Vikki (whose house it was) introduced me to her rabbits and said I was second in line for two baby bunnies when they arrive. I'm very excited.

- [livejournal.com profile] hils and I are going to see another house tomorrow and there are a couple more lined up ( I think) if this one isn't "the one". As much as we want to move, we don't actually have to leave for a while, so it would be nice to find a great place.

- 25 days to Psych!

- The Young Veins album is so good. I love it. I'm really pleased it's good. Different to other stuff that's around at the moment, which is a good thing. I like fresh.

- The cast of Community on Twitter = adorable.

- I've started my first [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo fic... Psych Zombie Apocalypse people. It's going to be awesome.

- [livejournal.com profile] ditchwitchbitch bought me a pair of shorts covered in pineapples. They are the most incredible shorts in the history of the world.

- It's bedtime. :)

Catch up

What have I been doing lately?

Well Friday I had a fabulous day off work and Monday was a bank holiday; I haven't had a weekend to myself in months so it was nice to have a four day weekend to just relax and enjoy myself. I did a lot of catching up with TV and I went to the cinema. (Reviews below).

Unfortunately though, last night at 4am the fire alarm went off. There was no fire, but it took 7 hours for the engineer to come and fix it. We were told by the management company we couldn't turn off the sounder without being fined, so we had to stay awake with the noise blaring until 11am. Needless to say, I couldn't go to work. I'm exhausted and my head is still aching. I'm going to bed as soon as I can.

I'm spending a lovely long weekend with my family. I have managed to make my mum fall in love with Psych and my sister is on the verge of breaking, I can feel it. Doctor Who was so good I almost didn't believe it, but I should not have doubted Stephen Moffat. He can do no wrong.

Yesterday I took my computer to the Apple store and they said I needed a new battery and disk drive. They replaced the drive; I'll have to get the battery next time.

Now my sister and I are trying to book our holiday to Florida, for my birthday in September. \o/

It's back to work tomorrow sadly and one week until the new job kicks in. This is the worst part of year, but luckily I have a fantastic holiday to look forward to in March.

I haven't made any resolutions particularly. I have a list of things I want to do before I turn 30 which I'm going to concentrate on. I have nine months (almost) to accomplish a few things. I would also like to read more and hopefully bandom big bang will be starting again soon. I'd like to finish off a few fics I have in the works and continue to improve.

And just to wrap a few TV things up...

Doctor Who - Spoilers )

Gavin & Stacey - Spoilers )

It's snowing again now. I'm going to make myself some coffee and wallow in my newfound crush on Jude Law.

As it's nearly 2010, I thought it was about time I posted what I've been doing with myself this week.

Christmas Day: includes comments about Doctor Who, Gavin & Stacey & Catherine Tate, but no actual spoilers )

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] fluttering_by and [livejournal.com profile] kyasuriin for the lovely cards that were waiting for me when I got home. ♥

I have no plans for New Year right now. I'm spending it completely alone for the first time in a while. I'm not sure if I should stay in or go out by myself. Either way might be fun.

I'll be posting my end of year round-up tomorrow.

If you have commented to anything over the last week I will be replying I promise. *g*

I'm now at my parents house for a couple of days catching up with them and my sister. So far that has involved watching lots of Doctor Who and if I ever say John Simm is over-acting in The Last of the Time Lords again please slap me. I still don't like it but honestly, over-acting is Who canon. ;) I love Turlough so much. I want Five/Turlough fic rather desperately.

This morning I went to see Harry Potter. Anyone who had issues with it may want to look away now because I freaking loved it )
