You know, it's days like these I'm so ashamed to be British it's almost unbelievable. Is there any country in the world that isn't filled with disgusting racist fascists? If so, how do you go about moving there?

Edit: And you know what pisses me off the most? The fact that the electorate of Yorkshire and the Humber is nearly 4 million people. 1.2 million people voted. Probably less than the number of people who voted in Big Brother tonight. If the other 3 million people had voted, I doubt the BNP would have gained their first seat. I don't care who you are and what you think about politics, but this is the reason for elections. This is the reason its important to vote in elections. So anyone who didn't vote, I'm just as angry at you right now as the idiots who voted for a group of ignorant bigots.

This is why you see me beating the drums every election day over here in the US -- voting is not just a right of citizenship, it is a responsibility, an attitude instilled in me by my great-grandmother, who was first able to exercise that right when she was a married woman with children.

What people need to do is work on getting other people out vote, convince them that it's important. And I don't just beat the drum here; I do it locally, every single election. Why did the BNP get a MEP? Because they banged the drum and convinced people who felt the way they did that it was important enough to get off their arses and go vote. You and others need to convince people who feel like you to get off their arses the next time so they don't win again.
