I went to see the second night of Frankenstein with the reverse cast on Thursday night - It was interesting to see it played the other way around. I think there was a lot of Sherlock in BC's performance of Victor - or at least I could see it that way - far more a brilliant mind coming apart than JLM's performance. And while your sympathy is always with the creature, I think I felt more like I understood Victor this time. There was one moment that stands out and it's difficult to describe so I won't bother, but the interaction between Victor and the creature at that moment and what BC and JLM did with it, was truly outstanding. It felt like a completely different play.
The past few weeks I have mostly been watching Hornblower, because a) Robert Lindsey and Ioan Gruffudd are hot... extremely hot, b) there are pretty ships and swords fights and men in 18th Century naval uniforms and c) it's really just one epic love story between Horatio and whoever happens to be standing next to him at the time (or only Captain Pellew if you're me).
This weekend, however my Sherlock Holmes box set arrived and now I have 16 hours of Holmes/Watson solving crimes and gazing affectionately at each other.
Why would any girl want to watch schmoopy chick flicks when she could watch Sherlock Holmes and Hornblower?
