Summary: Lassiter and Juliet share a meal, undercover.

Usually Juliet loved undercover work. She'd taken a couple of drama classes in college and they had always served her well when she need to be "in character".

This was the first time she and Carlton had been undercover together though and that made it rather more awkward.

Not because he wasn't good. Just... pretending to be on a date with someone you'd worked with every day for five years was weird. And it wasn't made any easier by Carlton hissing at her to relax every five minutes.

"I am relaxed," she whispered back as loudly as she dared. "Calm down."

"We've had dinner together a hundred times," Carlton pointed out in what must have been an attempt to put her at ease, but only served to make her annoyed.

She put her hand on his thigh under the table and squeezed. "Relaxed enough for you? Honey."

Carlton glared at her and Juliet's lips twitched into a victorious little smirk.

"You know I don't like pet names."
"Your character does though, I've decided. We use them all the time. Sweetie."

Carlton straightened his shoulders, clearly accepting the challenge when he placed his arm along the back of her seat and started to lightly brush his fingertips over the bare skin of her arm. "Know what you're getting yet? Snookums."

Juliet pursed her lips. "Don't call me that."

"Oh," Carlton said with fake surprise. "You don't like that one? Precious."

This time she shuddered. "Stop, okay, okay. Fine. I hate pet names too."

"Great. Can we order now?"

They ordered spaghetti and meatballs, one large plate to share because it was a couples special and nothing said "together" better than sharing food. Not unless they started to make-out at the table. Juliet choked on her wine when the thought crossed her mind and Carlton switched the glass in her hand with a glass of water, which sent her into a fit of giggles.

"O'Hara?"

"Do you always call your dates by their last names? Is that what the problem is?"

Carlton rolled his eyes and gave a much put upon sigh. Juliet patted his back, smiling. Honestly, she couldn't figure out how he struck out so much on dates. He'd been the perfect gentleman all evening. He was wearing a nice tie. He was smiling more than he usually did. No, it escaped her.

The plate of spaghetti was placed between them on the table; a staggering amount that made Juliet wonder if the couples menu was actually some sort of test. Maybe if they ate it all, they got it for free.

They ate in silence for a while, looking around the restaurant for anything suspicious. There was something off about the guy in the corner, Juliet knew and pointed him out to Carlton.

"Nice work, Juliet," Carlton said with a nod, making her smile. He usually only needed to be reminded once. "He could definitely be the guy."

They scooped up another bite of spaghetti each, both of them focused on the guy in the corner, rather than the food. Juliet chased the end of her spaghetti, realising too late that Carlton was having the same problem.

Their lips pressed together and they froze, eyes wide and suddenly fixed on each other.

Juliet pulled away quickly, turning her head as she felt her face start to heat up.

"Did that really just happen?" Carlton asked, sounding a little bewildered. "Surely that's never happened outside a movie before."

Juliet pressed her hands to her mouth to stifle her giggles as she looked back at Carlton's equally red face. "You may be right," she said fondly.

Looking down at the plate she saw a solitary meatball sitting on Carlton's side of the spaghetti and bit her lip. He must have noticed at exactly the same time, because even as her shoulders started to shake, he nudged the meatball towards her with his fork.
