Title: New Perspective: Jon
Author: jacqui_hw
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Spencer/Jon, Ryan/Brendon
Word Count: 2,700
Warnings: Language, pure unadulterated fluff
Summary: Post-split. After the Blink tour, Spencer, Brendon, Ryan and Jon decide to take a trip together to reconnect.
AN: This fic has morphed from a one-shot to an four-part tale. Brendon's pov coming soon. I'm still making no apologies for the fluffiness of this fic.

They finished the album in record time. Jon thought it probably had something to do with Pete, if Ryan's muttering was anything to go by. They weren't lazy by any means. Jon preferred the term laid-back, though he supposed nothing about Ryan could be classified that way.

"Where are they tonight?" Jon asked Ryan, though he knew perfectly well. He imagined Brendon and Spencer walking off the stage together, arms around each other's shoulders, laughing. He needed a smoke.

"Like you don't know," Ryan snorted as he finished off his beer and lay down on the deck. Jon ignored him and searched his pockets, finding a slightly crumpled packet containing one last cigarette.

He lit it and lay down next to Ryan, staring up at the stars. "You should call him."

"You should mind your own business."

---

The thing about Ryan and Spencer was, they were really annoying.

They knew everything there was to know about each other. They knew the kind of films the other would like, the food they'd want to eat, the music they'd want to listen to. The music they'd want to play.

One night, long ago, before Jon had even been part of the band, he'd helped Brendon back to his bus after an epic party on the Academy bus. He knew it was epic because William had declared it so and Brendon had begun giggling into his shoulder as though this was the funniest thing he'd ever heard.

That was the moment Jon realised Brendon had had far too much to drink. He'd pulled him to his feet and steadied him as they stumbled from the bus. "I'm fine, Jon, really," Brendon had assured him moments before he'd turned a deathly white colour and fallen to his knees, vomiting on the bus tire. Jon had stroked his hand over Brendon's hair for a moment and then helped him to his feet.

"Ryan's going to be pissed," Brendon mumbled miserably into Jon's shoulder. Jon didn't know much about their group dynamics, but he thought Brendon was probably right.

Spencer was sitting on the bus steps when they got there, blanket pulled around his shoulders, though Jon noticed his feet were bare.

"Spencer," Brendon drawled, clearly half asleep. "Is Ryan awake?"

"Let's hope not," Spencer said as he stood and took hold of Brendon's arm. "I've got him Jon."

"I can help," Jon told him when Brendon groaned a little too loudly. "I don't mind."

"I mind," Spencer snapped, wrapping his arms around Brendon. "I'm sorry, it's just..."

Jon shrugged. "I get it."

"No you don't," Spencer sighed, pushing Brendon down to sit on the bus steps. Brendon rested his cheek against Spencer's leg and promptly fell asleep. Jon laughed. "Shit," Spencer said and brushed his hand over Brendon's head, fondly. "What are we going to do with you?"

"Is it Ryan?" Jon asked, curious. "Tell me if it's none of my business."

"It's none of your business," Spencer replied and then he nodded. "Yes. It's Ryan. Ryan's issues." He looked down at Brendon again. "And Brendon's issues."

"What about Spencer's issues?"

Spencer laughed. "Ryan and Brendon are Spencer's issues."

---

Jon stared at the text message lighting up his phone in the darkness of his room.

Last night he'd sent a simple Good luck to Spencer and Brendon. Neither of them had replied. Jon wasn't sure he'd wanted them to. Now however...

hey! sry its so bsy here. well u knw. :) mt up soon yeah? S

Jon had typed out and deleted his response three times, when there was a knock at the door.

"Jon? Are you awake?"

"Come in Ryan."

Ryan pushed the door open and was framed for a moment in the doorway, light spilling in from the hall. Jon could hear the low rumble of the TV in the living room. The door closed, returning the room to darkness. Ryan all but ran towards the bed and scrambled under the covers.

"Hey," he said, shaking a little as he sunggled closer to Jon. "Why aren't you asleep?"

Jon handed his phone to Ryan, who took it with some curiosity. The light from the screen lit up his face as he read and Jon could see he was smiling for the first time. Not just smiling. Beaming. Big and wide, in a way he hadn't in far too long.

"You and Brendon had a good talk then?"

Ryan nodded, and started to type out a response to Spencer's text. "Yeah. Do you want to go to Hawaii?"

Jon made a grab for the phone. Ryan twisted away. "Hawaii? What...? What?"

"I was thinking we could all go. The four of us. We need a vacation and they start touring soon... It'd be good right?"

Jon hummed in agreement and rested his head on Ryan's shoulder. "What are you typing?"

"That you miss him and you love him and you want to have beautiful bearded babies with him."

"Fuck you," Jon said, but he was smiling. Ryan showed him the message he'd typed.

ne time beautiful. xo

"If you send that I will kill you."

Ryan kissed his nose and deleted the message. He started to type out a new one.

"I'm going to book the flights tomorrow. We're only going to have a week I think. Brendon gave me some dates."

Jon snorted. "Not the kind of dates you're wanting though."

Ryan poked him sharply in the stomach. "You're one to talk." He held up the phone again.

y r u ignoring me? i h8 u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Is that a comment on the return of the exclamation point?"

Ryan snickered and deleted the message. "Are you going to do something about the Spencer situation?"

"Are you going to do something about the Brendon situation?"

"Do you have to answer a question with a question?"

"Do you?"

"Jon..."

"I win." Jon was quiet for a moment and then continued. "Can I book the hotel? We should make the most of the time we have since we don't have have much. We need to be comfortable. We need to make this count."

"Uh huh, sure," Ryan said distractedly as he finished typing. He showed Jon the message.

coffee? whnvr ur free. good luck w/rest of tour. cu soon. J x

"No kiss," Jon protested.

"The kiss is what makes it," Ryan said as he pressed send.

The reply was almost instantaneous.

"Brendon and I are sitting together," Ryan announced when they stood up to board the five hour flight from LAX to Honolulu. Brendon looked positively gleeful.

"Suits me," Jon said wrapping his arm around Spencer's shoulders. "I get the grand prize."

Ryan winked at him. Actually winked.

When the fifteenth gummibear hit him in the face and Brendon and Ryan dissolved into giggles again, Jon started to laugh. Spencer was glowering.

"Tell the truth," Jon said with a sly grin, "You missed this."

Spencer relaxed a little and started to smile. Jon realised just how much he'd missed seeing it.

Brendon's raised voice stopped Spencer before he could answer.

"Actually Ryan, this is your intervention."

Jon bit down on his lip and buried his face in his pillow, muffling his laughter before Ryan stopped hitting Brendon and started hitting him.

"I didn't miss this," Spencer muttered.

Jon couldn't help himself. He reached out and squeezed Spencer's knee. "Yes you did."

---

"Jon Walker, you do miss me. Tell me you do," Brendon demanded, kneeling up on his seat.

"Of course. You know I do," Jon replied, pleased that Brendon was beaming at him so brightly.

"You know what would be awesome," Brendon said, leaning further over the seat towards Jon. "If we came on tour with you. Just followed you around. Like groupies. Then you'd still have the pleasure of my company."

Spencer snorted. Brendon ignored him.

"You want to just, follow us around?" Jon asked, amused.

"I would follow you anywhere," Brendon said with a leer.

Jon could practically hear Ryan's eyes roll. "That's enough. Jon's out of practice. Ease him back in gently."

Brendon sat back down and leaned against Ryan. "Wouldn't you like me to be your groupie?"

"Oh my God," Spencer said, finally letting go of Ryan's hand and burying his face in Jon's shoulder. "Make them stop."

Jon grinned and rested his cheek on Spencer's head. "Not a chance."

---

"I'm sharing with Jon," Spencer said, as soon as they stepped into the suite.

"Good," Brendon said, pulling a face at Spencer and grabbing Ryan's hand. "Lets check out our room."

Ryan allowed himself to be dragged along, while Spencer walked over and pushed open the doors to the terrace and beyond that the beach.

Jon watched him go, allowing his eyes to follow the graceful lines of Spencer's body as he moved. He missed being able to pull him close at any time, curl around him and laugh and talk about nothing. Sure the break-up was a good idea musically. Sure Ryan and Spencer were actually enjoying getting to know each other again. Sure Ryan and Brendon weren't screaming and swearing at each other. Sure that was all good and happy, but still. Jon missed Spencer. Every single day.

"This was a good idea," Spencer said quietly, as Jon walked up behind him. "Was it yours?"

"No," Jon replied just as quietly. "I just helped with the planning." He leaned on the rail next to Spencer. Their elbows bumped against each other.

Spencer closed his eyes and breathed everything in. "Lets make it an annual thing yeah?"

The look on Spencer's face was something Jon would never forget. He laughed, amazed, and wrapped his arm around Spencer's shoulders, pulling him closer. "Definitely."

---

"Come for a walk?" Jon asked as they made their way back along trail from the town on their second night there. They could hear Ryan and Brendon singing in the distance, voices fading as Jon and Spencer walked down to the shore. They walked along the beach, down to a more secluded spot. The sound of the waves filled the silence behind them.

Eventually they stopped and sat. Jon tilted his head back and looked up at the stars. You couldn't see stars in LA or Chicago. Not like this. This was something else. The sky touched the sea ahead of him, twinkling stars giving way to moonlight dancing on the waves. He felt like he was sitting at the edge of the universe.

"Are you happy?" Spencer said suddenly, dragging his attention away from the view. He looked at Spencer who was watching him with a strange sort of intensity. He seemed sleepy and content.

Jon matched the half smile on Spencer's lips. "Right now I'm one hundred percent happy."

Spencer nodded. "Me too."

Jon smiled and lay back on the sand, tugging Spencer's shirt until he followed. They didn't talk. They didn't need to. Spencer's fingers found Jon's wrist and Jon thought, if it were possible, he'd choose to live in this moment forever.

---

Ryan and Brendon had disappeared into their room and Jon was relieved to say the least. It felt like they'd been dancing around each other forever. He locked himself in the bathroom and stared in the mirror. Speaking of people who were dancing around... Jon shook his head at himself and splashed his face with some water, running his wet hands through his hair. If Ryan could get his shit together then Jon certainly could.

He got changed quickly and opened the door again. Spencer was sitting in the darkened room, staring out of the window. The moonlight was streaming in, bathing him in a shimmering blue glow. Spencer turned his head and caught Jon watching him.

In the next room, Ryan moaned.

Jon snorted and then bit down on his fist to stop himself giggling, shaking with mirth.

"There's a noise you never want to hear your best friend make," Spencer said and Jon gave in to the laughter and collapsed onto his bed, biting down on the blankets to stifle the noise.

"Oh my God."

Spencer started laughing. "Jon, seriously. It's disturbing. I'm disturbed."

That only made Jon laugh harder.

Spencer clambered over onto Jon's bed and hit him hard with a pillow, still laughing. "Stop it!"

"I can't," Jon gasped out. "I can't. I'm sorry. Stop hitting me."

Spencer hit him again and then collapsed next to him. "Want to watch a movie?"

Ryan moaned again, louder this time.

"Definitely."

---

The next morning Spencer and Ryan settled on two loungers on the beach and Brendon talked Jon into another piggy-back ride.

"So," Jon said when he finally dropped Brendon to his feet. "You and Ryan huh?"

Brendon threw his head back and laughed. "Yeah. It only took five years."

"Hey for Ryan, that's..."

"Impressive, yeah I know."

They both laughed again and Jon pulled Brendon into a hug. "I'm happy for you."

"As you should be," Brendon told him grinning. He pulled away and spun around, waving at a group of teenagers, who'd been watching them for a while. "Hey, hey, I'm the little duck!" he shouted and Jon doubled over with laughter, clutching his stomach. "I'm the little duck!"

They walked back over to Ryan and Spencer who were talking quietly but intently, heads bent close together. Jon sat down on Spencer's lounger and pulled his feet into his lap. His fingers ran playfully over the soles of Spencer's feet and then stilled. His thumb brushed against Spencer's ankle. "Hey."

"Hey," Spencer said, with a smile. "That tickles."

Jon smirked lazily. "You could move."

"I was here first. Get your own chair."

"I'm happy with this one thanks." His thumb ran over Spencer's ankle again and smiled when he shivered.

---

That night Spencer and Jon headed down to the beach and watched the sunset. They talked about Ryan and Brendon, they talked about the Blink tour and the new albums. It wasn't easy, but it was getting easier.

"Home soon," Jon said quietly as the last of the pink faded from the sky. "Back to reality."

"What's reality?" Spencer asked, lying down on the blanket they'd taken from the closet. "Did you ever think, this time last year...?"

"No," Jon interrupted quickly. "Not at Christmas or Easter either." Not until they'd all crowded into the practice space in Ryan's house actually and began to excitedly share what they'd been working on, only to realize they were suddenly working worlds apart.

"Do you regret it?" Spencer asked and Jon noticed the hitch in his voice.

"None of us were happy Spence. Not one of us." Jon tried to keep his voice soft and gentle. What was the point in going over it all again? He watched as Spencer sighed and tilted his head back to look at the sky.

"That's not what I asked."

"No," Jon said, firmly, assuredly. "No, I don't."

He knew it was harsh. Knew it wasn't wanted Spencer wanted to hear. But they couldn't go back now. Just forward. Spencer had tensed up and Jon shifted closer, knowing he had to take the chance.

"If it hadn't happened," Jon murmured against Spencer's ear, smiling a little when he jumped, "If it hadn't happened, I wouldn't be here, with you, like this."

Jon had been imagining kissing Spencer ever since that first summer they'd met. The reality was everything he'd imagined and more. Spencer moaned into his mouth, kissing him back hard and dirty; he crawled into Jon's lap, rocking their hips together. Jon held him close, the last bit of fear and worry vanishing from his mind.

Things were exactly the way they were meant to be.

This is so good and I'm looking forward to the fourth part with Brendon but I'll also miss this series when it's done.

Still praising how you manage to do multiple povs on the same events without making the story feel repetitive.

Thank you! It means a lot to me that you're enjoying them. One have plenty of new stuff in the works though. Including something special which should be unveiled this week. ;)

I'm glad you think so. It's getting hard for me to know whether or not it's really working.
