Pretty much. I saw someone somewhere say that they'd bet that if it had been Brendon giving that first interview, saying the exact same things people would *handwave* forgive him and see the positive because he's a puppy! I have seen people actually say that they cannot possibly blame Brendon for the split because he is just so darned cute. Ryan is easier to hate because he's not as openly and obviously cute and charming as Brendon. I'm pretty much sure that they have all done stupid things (they are boys in a rock band who became famous at a very young age, of course they have all done stupid shit!) and I am sure that both Ryan and Brendon have a part in the issues between them, which, yeah, is why all the hate is just not fair.
The most hilarious thing about the blame against Jon is that from the day I joined this fandom, people have been raving about the awesome that is Jon Walker. He's so cool! He got Ryan to chill out and become a happy hippie! In fact they all became so much less emo and more fun with the addition of JWalk! I felt like laughing my ass off when I saw the first "Damn you Jon Walker and your chilled out happy hippie ways! You turned Ryan against his band!"
This whole thing has just made me so much more determined to see all this in a positive light. No one is to blame! They all did what they had to do to be happy! They are still friends and everything will be ok! :DDDDD
