I actually feel a little sick for doing this, but I've f-locked all my posts until this "situation" blows over.

I suppose it's nice to know that "free speech" means "free to talk about fluffy things like marshmallows and rainbows". Not that I don't understand LJ's position. They need to protect themeselves too.

I'm not going to get into the part about fiction being fictional because I have to be at work in half an hour and you don't really want to have me rant for as long as I'd like to.

If anyone would like to be added to my flist in the mean time, please comment here.

ETA (31/05/07) I've started unlocking some posts, but the way things look around LJ at the moment I think it's probably better to keep personal information and some fandom stuff protected. Who knows what's next on the hit list (no I don't trust that this is all over). We'll see what happens over the next couple of months and I'll think again.

From what I can tell it's fanfic, not personal posts that's being targeted but you're right about the insanity of all this

I'd save all your favourite SPN fics just in case

Yeah I know, but if I want to write fic myself or rec things or whatever it's better this way. And someone only has to complain to start a problem.

That's what I'll be doing tonight. *sigh*

Is your fiction journal locked? If you feel journal locking is the way to go then that might be an idea

Sorry, I read that wrong. No I haven't f-locked my fiction journal, but there's nothing in it at the moment that might be a problem (as I see it).

It's so insane. When such things are said as It's time to value child safety above free speech, I can't help freaking out, no matter how much I wish for children to be safe.

I think there needs to be a balance. Of course protecting children is important but someone writing fic about Harry Potter or Supernatuural or Heroes or anything isn't promoting abuse. The campaign needs to be focused in the right direction. Targeting fiction communities isn't going to help anyone.

Any sense of curbing your right to say whatever you want makes me nervous and sad.

i'm sort of hoping lj will calm down and it will all blow over. they must realise this is not helping anyone.

That's what I hope too. Some sort of acknowledgement so that everyone knows where they stand would probably help, but until then you can't really do much. I don't particularly want to lock up my journal and as soon as this blows over I'll stop. *sigh*

What the hell? I find out about this from [livejournal.com profile] stupid_free?

I have no idea how to even friends lock my journal, apart from going through every post and filtering it o.O

This is the stupidest thing I've heard of in a long time.

If you want to lock your journal, go to FAQs and there's a link so you can do the whole lot in one go.

Stupid morality nazis!!!! When will they stop?

Apparently I fail at simple LJ things. I went to the admin control thingie and it didnae work. D: Or at least I don't think it did since I signed out and could still see my whole journal...

If you still want to lock things, go to edit entries and there's a link to bulk change security settings. *g*

Yeah, locking everything down temporarily was the best solution I could come up with as well, sadly. This is all rather insane and ridiculous, but better safe than sorry, really.

It's insanity. I wasn't even thinking about it until I read that post you linked - the part about monitoring journals... *shudders*

Just logged on, and went O.o right away. I don't have anything to worry about personally, but I fear for some of the fandoms I like - although the communities/fic journals I follow have nothing to do with kids or family members getting jiggy. They are all non-related consenting adults - although that doesn't exactly spell "safe" anymore either...

My thought yesterday was "this is how it starts". I have no faith that in future another pressure group won't come along and try to ban slash or even general fanfiction. We'll see what happens now.

Yeah, this is batshit insane. We'll just have to wait and see how it ends, there's not much we can do but wait it out.
