Five presents Sam got from Dean
1. Since the night of the fire Dean always had one eye on Sam. For the first eighteen years of Sam's life, until an ugly and inevitable row had taken Sam out of the circle of his brother's care, Dean's first thought in every situation was "Is Sam safe?". Sam never knew exactly how far the protection had stretched. He knew about the hunts where Dean would step in front of him or push him out of the way; where the tiniest scrape or yell would result in questions and cosseting until Dean was satisfied that Sam was indeed alright. He didn't know about the boys at school whose thoughtless comments earned them bloody noses and threats of worse should it happen again.
2. Going through puberty at such close quarters with another person was not fun for either of the Winchester boys. Dean had it a little easier since Sam was young enough that he didn't know what was happening and Dean could hide as much as he needed. By the time Sam was going through it Dean was old enough to no longer feel embarrassed and took pleasure in tormenting Sam whenever he got the chance. The day after he walked in on Sam kissing a girl when he was fourteen, Dean tossed him a box of condoms and told him to be careful. Dean felt that the colour of red Sam had turned in that moment was worth the fact that he didn't speak to him for the next two days.
3&4. Sam didn't let Dean take him to the bus station. He said goodbye and stopped himself from begging Dean to go with him. Dean watched him go in silence, his face set. Sam spent the entire ride to San Francisco cursing his brother, reminding himself that he'd done the right thing. Dean cared more about Dad and his quest than Sam and his dreams. Sam knew it was better this way.
Later, when he found the knife and the note in the bottom of his bag, he collapsed onto the cheap motel bed and cried out all his fear and frustration, angry with himself for doubting his brother.
5. Passing through a nothing town in the middle of nowhere, Dean stopped the car and climbed out, surprising Sam as they'd been in the middle of a "conversation" about dad's journal. Sam watched Dean walk into what was seemingly the only store and wondered exactly how pissed off Dean was with him for voicing his opinion that they needed some kind of order to the research and while the journal may be the font of all knowledge, it was sadly lacking in the indexing and cross-referencing departments.
Dean returned five minutes later with a a packet of pens, some coloured paper and a hold punch and told him to have fun.

I don't care how many different versions there are of Leaving To The Bus Station / Saying Goodbye At The Bus Station, that scene can never be written enough. :)
