Have His Carcase by Dorothy L Sayers.

I never used to read crime novels or detective fiction. Truthfully, because the book covers they used in the 60s/70s scared the crap out of me when my mum would read them. But I remember her telling me about one scene in Have His Carcase that made me go and read every book in the series.

( I wouldn't call them spoilers. I don't tell you what happens in the book. It's just a snippet and some background information. )
