Chicago Days Six/Seven
Thursday we had a lazy morning and drove to Hot Doug's for the best hot dogs in Chicago. There was long line but they were worth it. I managed to buy some new clothes at Target too which made me very happy. That afternoon we went to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play the Padres. It was a surprisingly fun experience for my first ever sporting event. I had a giant pretzel and got annoyed at the people sitting in front of us and wondered out-loud quite often why no one was actually hitting the ball. It was great. Afterwards we went back to the pier for a sunset cruise around the bay. Kerry and I raised a sail all by ourselves, which was an experience. The city is so pretty at night, all lit up. The lights and the water are beautiful. We had dinner at 44th Ward Dinner Party again and Cory remembered us (I got a photo with him, but it's sadly lost forever now). Then we headed out to Angels & Kings to see what it was like when it wasn't so crowded. I really like it there, even if the drinks are a bit strong.
On Friday we drove to Indianapolis for the last Fall Out Boy show. It was an outdoor gig so we assumed it would get rained off, but the weather when we got there was perfect. I had to buy suntan wipes so we wouldn't get burned. I got a little bit of a tan just from sitting outside for a couple of hours. We tried to stand in the pit again but some stupid drunken boys made it horrible for everyone (also, why do parents insist on taking young children to these things) so we left after Hey Monday and got something to drink. It was still hot then. All Time Low played next and shocked all the parents, to my amusement. Cobra was next and it poured with rain through the whole set. Gabe was drunk and Ryland and Alex had to sing some of the lines, but it was a good experience. We tried to find them after the set, during Metro Station, but they wouldn't come out with so many people around. Finally, the rain cleared and it was time for Fall Out Boy.
It was the most fun I've ever seen them have on stage. Pete was so happy! He was bouncing around and making jokes and then Patrick made jokes. Patrick talked A LOT. They played the Don't Matter/Ignition cover. After that small studio gig on Monday, this was the best gig I've ever been to. Not just Fall Out Boy. Anyone ever. They were happy and it made everyone else happy. It was the perfect end to my holiday.
Except of course that it wasn't the end of my holiday. We had to drive back to Chicago through a massive storm. Kerry could barely see to drive, for the rain. Lightning everywhere. It was horrible.
I'll post about my trip home when I post my pictures which will hopefully be tomorrow. There are far too many photos.
