(no subject)

My Christmas shopping is finished and my cards are (mostly) posted. If you requested a fic to go along with your card, it'll probably be posted here before the new year.

Over the past three weeks I've really been trying hard at my diet and I've lost 9lbs. I'd really like to have lost a stone by Christmas and I'm on track for that. \o/ I bought some new jumpers for work today and managed to get a smaller size, which made me happy.

Work on the other hand is not so good. On Friday we received an email from management informing us that from the new year, we'll all have to work 9-5 with an hour for lunch, instead of the slightly more flexible way things are now. This causes a few problems for me. It's out of town and I don't drive so if I desperately need to go to the bank or post office, I can't make it. I walk home every night so I'll never be home before 6. I won't be able to go to gigs, or go home on Friday night anymore because it'll be too late by the time I get anywhere. Worse than all of that though is that fact that no one talked to us about it. The email was sent when all the management team when conveniently in a meeting. No one bothered to tell us face to face or ask how we felt or how it would impact our lives. As always, the only way to have "flexible" working is to have a child. I understand that people with children need that time, I do. But I don't like the assumption that not having a child means you don't have anything else to do. Everyone I've spoken to about it feels under-appreciated. I'm glad I've decided to leave.

Back to the good things. Community is awesome. How have I missed it for so long? Abed! Abed is my favourite. I love him so much. He makes me happy. Abed & Troy are adorable. I find Jeff/Annie a much better pairing than Jeff/Britta or Annie/Troy. I love this show so much after only 10 episodes. Is it Friday yet?

You missed it for so long because you do not believe me when I tell you things are AWESOME! Abed is phenomenal.

I do believe you!!! I'm just slow.

As I've said, nice job on the weight loss. I never word this right, so my apolgies if it sounds stupid, but you can tell you've lost the weight, you look good.

Going down a size is always awesome. That's why I haven't bought my trousers for my wedding suit yet, I want to be down a size (ideally 2) before I buy them.

Work sucks. We've gone through my opinions on that, and I'm sure I'll talk about it again, but the things that really piss me off are the cowardice of not speaking to us and the golden ticket, sorry, child situation. Just because you have a child, what you do in your free time is more important? I have dependants too, okay they are feline, but can I get flexible working hours too? Please?

Haven't started Community yet, but MAN stuff was kicking off in Glee this week... It was awesome.

Thank you. :D

Work does suck. Hopefully things will be better now we've at least stood up for ourselves.

Glee was awesome. :D Community is brilliant though. When you have time. Hhehe.

Congrats on losing weight! I should lose a little too.

I hope you find a better job soon. It sounds shitty that they won't give you any wiggle room.

Thank you hunnybunny!

Just a little bit of flexibility is nice you know? I'll be going back to college at some point, but still.

omg I have the same mentality when it comes to work. just because I don't have kids to go home to, doesn't mean I should stay late. I have a cat and the internet whom I enjoy spending quality time with.

when do you leave?

[identity profile] jacqui-hw.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Most people have lives outside of work regardless of whether they have children. Everyone should be able to have a little bit of flexibility.

I don't leave for definite yet. I just mean, I know I want to go and retrain so I can do cake-making/decorating. I want to do a course next year. That's the plan anyway. :D
